Durability is the amount of time a tool can be effectively used. For sand belt grinding, the durability of the sand belt refers to the time it takes for the sand belt to grind under certain grinding conditions (such as material cutting rate, grinding force, grinding temperature, etc.), usually expressed in seconds (or hours). In practical applications, cumulative grinding amount is also used to represent the total amount of material (mm3) ground by the entire sand belt or the accumulated number of workpieces processed. Although this method is not strict enough, it is simple, convenient to apply, and can roughly reflect the actual situation of the durability of the sand belt.

The durability of an abrasive belt is different from that of a grinding wheel. The latter refers to the processing time between two repairs, while the former usually cannot be repaired. A single abrasive belt is used until it is no longer usable. So the durability of the sand belt is much longer than that of the grinding wheel, usually within 4-10 hours. Its durability is shorter during heavy load grinding and longer during light load grinding. Poor sanding may only take 10-30 minutes, while good sanding can last for a few days, depending on the specific processing conditions.
