In 2025, China's sandpaper industry is undergoing a profound industrial transformation under the dual pressures of increasingly strict environmental policies and the upgrading of demands for high-end manufacturing. Industry data shows that the market size of dust-free sandpaper is expected to rise from 8.5 billion yuan in 2025 to 13 billion yuan in 2030, with an average annual compound growth rate of 8.9%. This growth is driven by both technological iteration and market consolidation.

In a smart factory in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, a fully automated dust-free sandpaper production line is running at a speed of 30 meters per minute. This production line, which adopts Internet of Things technology, has increased the product yield rate to 92% by monitoring the uniformity of abrasive distribution in real time, a 15-percentage-point increase compared to traditional processes. The person in charge of the enterprise disclosed that "After the intelligent transformation, the annual production capacity of a single production line has increased from 8 million square meters to 12 million square meters, and the labor cost has been reduced by 40%." This is just a microcosm of the industry's transformation - according to statistics, the investment in intelligent equipment by domestic sandpaper enterprises will increase by 23% year-on-year in 2025, and the equipment renewal rate of leading enterprises in the East China region has reached 68%.

Technological innovation is breaking the monopoly of foreign brands. The CVD diamond-like carbon coating technology developed by the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Henan University of Technology has tripled the wear resistance of sandpaper and achieved import substitution in the processing of thermal barrier coatings for spacecraft. At the BYD Xi'an production base, graphene-reinforced sandpaper, after a six-month trial, has extended the service life of battery shell processing molds by 40% and reduced the cost of each mold by 12,000 yuan. Such technological breakthroughs have pushed the market share of domestic high-end sandpaper from 12% in 2020 to 28% in 2025.

The market landscape is showing a "two extremes" situation. On one hand, the industry concentration is accelerating, and it is expected that by 2030, the CR5 (market share of the top five enterprises) will increase from 38% in 2025 to over 50%, with small and medium-sized enterprises with an annual production capacity of less than 500,000 square meters facing elimination. On the other hand, new opportunities are emerging in niche fields. For instance, the demand for sandpaper used in cutting photovoltaic silicon wafers has increased by 37% year-on-year, while the traditional woodworker's sandpaper market has shrunk by 8.2% due to real estate regulation. This differentiation prompts enterprises to adjust their strategies: Changzhou Jinniu Abrasives has invested 230 million yuan to build a modular production line that can switch between different grit products within 15 minutes; Shandong Xinyi Group has developed titanium alloy-specific sandpaper, which has become a new profit growth point with a gross profit margin of 35%.

Environmental protection pressure is driving industrial upgrading. With the implementation of the "Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Air Pollution", non-dust-free sandpaper production lines will be completely phased out by the end of 2025, creating a 121.5 billion yuan equipment update market. Baosteel Group has taken the lead in launching a "sandpaper recycling program", achieving a 85% recycling rate of waste sandpaper through a closed-loop recycling system, reducing carbon emissions by 1.2 tons per ton of waste. On the consumer side, Generation Z's acceptance of the premium for environmental attributes exceeds 50%, driving the sales of biodegradable plant fiber-based sandpaper to increase by 210% year-on-year.

Industry experts point out that future competition will focus on three major tracks: First, functional innovation, such as the penetration rate of anti-static sandpaper in the polishing of electronic components has reached 42%; second, service extension, leading enterprises have begun to provide an overall solution of "sandpaper + intelligent grinding equipment + process database"; third, global layout, a certain enterprise's anti-moisture sandpaper developed for the Southeast Asian market has achieved a market share of over 12% in Vietnam. However, the challenges remain severe - the annual fluctuation rate of silicon carbide raw material prices is 15%, and the EU carbon tariff has increased export costs by 18%, requiring enterprises to establish a three-dimensional competitiveness of "technology - cost - carbon footprint".

In this wave of industrial upgrading, those new enterprises that can not only master the synthesis technology of nano-abrasives but also excel in Douyin live-streaming e-commerce are becoming the leading force in the industry transformation.
