The terms of abrasives and grinding tools are widely used in the industry, but to truly understand them, we can better apply them. The following are 20 terms for your reference.
1. Abrasive: Material that cuts objects during grinding, lapping and polishing.
2. Abrasive grains: Abrasives are made into specific grain sizes by artificial methods and are used to make grinding, polishing and lapping tools for removing material excess.
3. Grain size: The measurement and diameter of abrasive grain size.
4. Micro powder: Ordinary abrasives, abrasive grains not coarser than 240 grit or super-hard abrasive grains finer than 36/54μm.
5. Coarse abrasive grains: The diameter of abrasive grains with grit numbers of 4-220.
6. Grain size number: Grading mark for the diameter of abrasive grains according to the implementation standard.
7. Single crystal: The arrangement of crystal atoms is very regular, with regular shape and anisotropy.
8. Polycrystalline: The shape of a crystal composed of many small grains with different tendencies.
9. Magnetic material: A general term for the magnetic properties of magnetically sensitive materials in abrasive grains.
10. Angle of repose: The angle between the cone surface and the bottom surface of the cone formed when the abrasive sample falls from a certain height through a funnel onto a horizontal metal plate. The angle of repose is generally calculated from the diameter and height of the cone.
11. Bulk density: The mass of abrasive particles in a unit volume of air when the abrasive particles are naturally piled up, in g/cm3.
12. Natural abrasives: Abrasives made directly from natural minerals and rocks after sorting, crushing, grading or other processing.
13. Capillary phenomenon: Abrasive particles are placed in a glass test tube of a certain diameter, and the lower end is immersed in water. In a given time, the height (mm) of the water rises.
14. Artificial abrasives: Abrasives refined or synthesized by artificial methods. The abrasives of Abrasives Industry Co., Ltd. are artificial abrasives.
15. Specific surface area: The total surface area of abrasive per unit mass, in m2/g.
16. Impact toughness: the impact resistance and crushing performance of abrasives.
17. Compressive strength: the load value when a single abrasive particle is crushed under static pressure, unit N.
18. Free abrasive particles: abrasive particles that are directly ground or polished in a free state.
19. Particle size composition: a combination of graded marks made by the size of abrasive particles of a certain nominal particle size number.
20. Mixed particle size: abrasive particle size formed by mixing two or more particle sizes of abrasive particles in a set ratio.
