Silicon carbide is used in the construction of each sheet to provide a smooth, fine surface that resists loading up and disintegration during wet sanding, or to really dig in for paint and rust removal. An innovative resin bonding technology is used in the design of these sandpaper sheets to improve performance and durability while resisting heat and moisture. The coarser grits are excellent for sanding body filler and removing paint, while the finer grits are best for wet sanding color and clearcoats. 

Metal and plastic body panels, parts, body fillers, and primers can all be polished or smoothed with automotive refinishing sandpaper. Additionally, it can be used to remove corrosion, rust, paint, and scale. Select medium grits such as 180, 220, 400, and 600 for finish and wet sanding, or coarse grits such as 36, 60, and 80 for shaping filler and removing rust and old paint. We even have extremely fine-grit sandpaper on hand for color sanding prior to buffing, polishing, and compounding. Wet/dry sanding and finishing sheets for use on all surfaces have an open-coat silicon carbide abrasive applied to a paper backing. Paper-backed wet/dry abrasives are flexible and can be used dry or with water or another lubricant to prevent loading and minimize dust. Silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic abrasive that provides a fine finish in low-pressure applications such as finishing and painting preparation. It breaks down faster than aluminum oxide. Open-coat abrasives have grit on about 50% of the surface leaving space between the abrasive grains to prevent swarf from clogging the surface which keeps the workpiece cooler. Compatible surfaces and substrates include paint, plastic, composites, gelcoat, fiberglass, and carbon steel.
